The first public meeting of a task force to try and address the continuing problem of heroin use in the area took place on Friday. Madison County Sheriff Bob Hertz and Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons established the Madison County Heroin Task Force last month in response to the ongoing problem of heroin overdoses.
Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons says they are already planning ahead to bring in more of the people with personal experience with the drug.

Friday’s meeting featured presentations by Madison County Coroner Steve Nonn and a representative from the D.E.A. Twenty two people died last year in Madison County from an overdose of heroin.
