Two people were sentenced to prison this week following their guilty pleas to crimes committed in Alton. 34 year old Rachel Barnes of St. Louis will spend nine years in jail after pleading to armed robbery in connection with an incident in Alton in January. 31 year old Trumel Freeman of St. Louis also pleaded to armed robbery and was sentenced to 18 years.
Freeman was accused of armed robberies at convenience stores in Wood River and East Alton, and pleaded guilty to the robbery in Alton in which he followed home a convenience store clerk and robbed them of cash while he possessed a handgun. He must serve at least half his sentence. Barnes took part in a robbery and attack on an Alton man at his home in the 1300 block of Pearl Street earlier this year, along with two other suspects. She will also have to serve at least half her sentence under the plea agreement.
