American steelworker jobs have been on the decline for years, so the Illinois Senate took action this week passing legislation asking the President and United States Congress to impose tariffs on steel produced in foreign countries. State Senator Sam McCann (R-Carlinville) spoke in favor of the resolution he co-sponsored, saying past attempts by the United States to engage in free trade has hurt middle-income American workers.
He cites NAFTA as a prime example.
