You can afford to put off registering this vote this year. Under a new law signed by the governor, you can now register to vote on Election Day at certain locations around the state. “I have found one truism in Springfield fighting folks who don’t seem to want to expand access to the polls,” Harmon said. “You can’t go wrong making sure more people participate in government.” The law was criticized by Republicans as a way to drum up support for Democrats this fall. All of its provisions—which include extra days for early voting and removing the requirement for early voters to show a photo ID—are only in effect for this year’s election.
