The City of Alton’s plan to renovate a portion of the historic Riverview Park is moving forward, as the Committee of the Whole approved a funding measure at last night’s meeting. The project must be done by the end of September 2015 because all Scenic Byways grants have been eliminated under the new transportation bill, and existing grants have been set to expire.
Alton Park & Recreation Executive Director Michael Haynes says there will be a lot of improvements done, starting this winter.

The city won a $148,600 OSLAD Grant last year, and a National Scenic Byways grant for $404,000 in 2012. The Byways grant is federal money that must be used by September 30, 2015. The full council is expected to approve the resolution at its meeting tomorrow night.
