Travel this morning could be slick for some of you heading out to work or school.  There's a light dusting of snow for most of the Riverbend but still more on the way.  Most schools south and southeast of the St. Louis area are closed today due to heavier snow there, but the Alton School District is closed today due to icy conditions on parking lots and sidewalks.   So far, no other Riverbend schools have cancelled classes today.  (as of 7:00am)

Thursday was a slick start for some drivers after a light coating of sleet and freezing rain lead to several traffic accidents and cars off the roadway.  Overpasses were especially problematic on 255, 270 and Highway 111.  The Phobe Goldberg Overpass carrying Highway 143 into Wood River was icy, leading to a few minor accidents.

If you travel just to our south, you'll find several inches of snow on the ground, and reports of as much as 6-8 inches of snow on the ground in places like Marion and Carbondale.  There's a winter storm warning for much of the southern third of Illinois today.
