The Tree of Lights, Red Kettle Campaign of the Salvation Army is underway, and many bell ringers will be seen and heard outside stores and shopping centers in the River Bend this weekend, and through the rest of the Christmas season. This weekend, the Bank of Edwardsville is matching the money collected at the Godfrey and Wood River Wal Mart stores up to $700.
Alton Salvation Army Lieutenant Teri Ellison says despite the tough economic times, she believes their goal will be met.
The goal this year for the local Salvation Army is $114,000, which is $6,000 more than last year's goal. Z-1570 will once again host its Children's Day broadcast, coming up on December 11.
