A long-time fixture in Riverbend law enforcement and social circles has died. Ray Botterbush, who served for about 40 years with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, died in his sleep while on a scouting trip in Macoupin County. The Macoupin County Coroner says he was pronounced dead at the Boy Scout Camp in Hetick this (Monday) morning.
Madison County Sheriff Bob Hertz says they both hired in at about the same time, and were neighbors for about 30 years. Hertz says Botterbush was a man who wore many hats.
