A priest in the Springfield Catholic Diocese has been removed from public ministry while allegations against him are investigated. Father Robert DeGrand is accused of abusing a minor in the 1980’s while he served at Our Savior Parish in Jacksonville. He currently serves as pastor of churches in Sigel, Neoga, Green Creek and Lillyville.
Springfield Diocese spokeswoman Kathy Sass says a preliminary investigation shows there could be credibility to the allegations so they have forwarded the details to Rome for further inquiry:

Sass says while the initial findings do not mean DeGrand is guilty, the Catholic Church takes all allegations seriously and if the person is found guilty of harming a child, or young person, the accused has no place in public ministry within the church.
