Glen Carbon Police Tuesday searched property where a woman was found frozen to death, for evidence of criminal activity. But Glen Carbon officials say that the criminal activity they are investigating is unrelated to 83-year-old Mary Kampwerth’s death. Kampwerth was found by police on Saturday lying in her driveway and may have been there for several days.
The property is located on Highway 159 near 270 and authorities say it would have been difficult for passing motorists to see the property especially if the victim was covered by snow. Police Chief John Lakin says they’ve gotten information that a crime may have been committed on the property but he didn’t elaborate other than to say other family members lived at the property. A police officer on routine patrol discovered Kampwerth’s body Saturday morning.
