After more than three weeks of searching, Alton Police have recovered the body of a missing woman. 30-year-old Courtney C. Coats was reported missing the Monday before Thanksgiving. Her body was found this morning near the Joe Page Bridge in Hardin. Her boyfriend and a friend of his are jailed on numerous charges in connection with her death.
Charged with two counts of First Degree Murder, and single counts of Dismembering a Human Body and Concealment of a Homicidal Death are 28-year-old Patrick A. Chase of Alton and 30-year-old Brandon L. Chittum of Collinsville. Alton Police Lieutenant Scott Golike:
It is alleged the pair strangled and slit Coats' throat before dismembering her and dumped her body by the Illinois River. Golike says they believe she was killed in her home on November 23.
