A family has been displaced in a Thursday morning house fire in Upper Alton. The fire started just before 8am at a home in the 2,300 block of Humbert Street, near Salu Park. A preliminary investigation would indicate the fire to be electrical in nature. Alton Deputy Chief Mark Harris says the fire had taken over much of the house by the time his crews arrived.

After a primary search of the residence, crews learned the house was empty, but the fire had gotten past them. Harris says they went to a defensive strategy and got the fire put out. Harris says there is major fire damage, but hesitated to call the home a complete loss. No injuries were reported.
