The Illinois Department of Transportation is warning motorists of potential traffic delays over the next few weeks if they cross the Mississippi River at I-270. Daytime lane restrictions are being planned at the Chain of Rocks Canal Bridges between April 28 and May 9, weather permitting. IDOT Engineer Joe Monroe says these closures are necessary to perform routine inspections.

Westbound lane closures are scheduled between 9am and 8pm during the course of the project, while eastbound lanes will be closed from 5:30an-3pm, and only one lane in either direction is scheduled to be closed at any one time. Motorists that use the Clark Bridge in Alton are already dealing with traffic issues, as lane closures are in place for repairs. Those repairs include re-wrapping of the cables, removal of graffiti, and some bridge-deck patching. That work is scheduled through the end of July.
