Medical marijuana is coming to Illinois and the businesses that grow and sell it should be open by later this year. One of two license holders to sell the drug for the Metro East plans to open later this year in Sauget, while another license holder is still under review by the state.
TGS Illinois was awarded one of the dispensary licenses and will open in a business park in Sauget near the baseball stadium for the Gateway Grizzlies, which is just off 255 in St. Clair County. Only those with a state issued permit card will be allowed to purchase the medical marijuana and must have one of 41 serious illnesses or diseases to qualify for the treatment program. Progressive Treatment Solutions LLC was the company awarded the license to grow the marijuana, but a location for the grow operation in the Metro East has not yet been announced. TGS Illinois believes it will open this summer.
