The Maternity Ward at Jersey Community Hospital is set to close by this spring. Hospital leaders made the official announcement last week, but began the process in late 2013. The cost of running the unit, and declining use, ultimately lead to the decision to end the service.
The hospital reported just 130 births in 2013, down from around 200 in 2008. A hospital spokesman says it is working with other healthcare professionals in the area, and other hospitals in the region, to ensure quality care for women who need maternity care in the future.
