A man who was recently a member of the Southwestern School District Board and also a coach in the district has been charged with a crime that allegedly occurred 17 years ago. 41 year old Rodney L. Bailey of Medora is charged with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse from incidents in the summer of 1997 with a child under age 13.
Bailey resigned from the Southwestern School Board last August, and resigned as a coach in the district in April of this year. He was not employed by the district at the time of the alleged abuse, and a school district official says they were not aware of an investigation until he was charged last week. Bailey previously coached in the Jersey School District but the alleged abuse took place away from school. Illinois State Police began investigating the allegations against Bailey in June of this year when the now 30 year old victim came forward, and the Jersey County State’s Attorney charged him on Friday. Bailey turned himself into police on Monday and posted bond. He is due in Jersey County Court on August 19. Bailey faces three to seven years in jail on each of the three counts.
