A 15-year veteran of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office has been honored by Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan. Lieutenant Kristopher M. Tharp was recognized last week as a recipient of an Elderly Service Officer of the Year in Kanakee, Illinois.

Tharp is the second in command of the Investigations Division and Madison County Sheriff Robert Hertz says Tharp was selected for his professional performance to duty on the investigation into the death of Marjorie B. Phillips in January.

On January 3rd, Tharp presented the results of his investigation to the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office who then charged Phillips’ daughter, Marjorie E. Phillips with three counts of criminal neglect of an elderly person, class 2 felonies.  Last month, she pled guilty to one of the charges and was sentenced to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
