A bill is working its way through the Illinois General Assembly that would lower auto registration fees for Purple Heart recipients. The Illinois House of Representatives Thursday passed legislation sponsored by State Representative CD Davidsmeyer (R-Jacksonville) that will honor those who have served in the military and earned the Purple Heart by reducing their annual cost of automobile registration.

It also provides that for a person who has been issued Purple Heart plates for an additional vehicle and who has been approved for benefits under the Senior Citizens and Disabled Persons Property Tax Relief Act, the annual fee for the registration of the vehicle shall be $24. The measure now moves on to the Senate for their consideration.
