Wood River Mayor Fred Ufert (L), Brad Lavite (R)A local man has been recognized for his work with veterans.  Brad Lavite is the superintendent of the Madison County Veterans’ Assistance Commission, and was honored by the Wood River City Council this week for getting the ball rolling on a bill that is now making its way through the United States Congress.

Lavite worked with Congressman Rodney Davis on a bill that would give employers credit for hiring veterans who would not be counted in their overall employee numbers for healthcare if the veteran receives federal health benefits.  He says a recent trip to Washington D.C. to support the bill is a memory he won’t soon forget.
