Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn is reporting that an autopsy has been conducted as the investigation continues into the death of a Granite City, Illinois teen who died after collapsing at a high school football practice late yesterday (June 17, 2015) afternoon.
The decedent, identified as:
Toney M. Graham
Male/Black, 13 years old
Granite City, Illinois
was pronounced dead on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 6:09 p.m. in the Emergency Department of Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, Illinois.
The decedent’s football practice had started at 4:00 p.m. with fittings for uniforms and proceeded to pre-practice stretching. The decedent collapsed suddenly onto the floor. Coaching staff rendered aid to Graham while awaiting arrival of Granite City Fire Department EMS. There was no report of complaints of illness and the decedent was reportedly laughing and joking with his teammates before his collapse. The decedent had no history of medical problems.
The autopsy today failed to indicate any evidence of trauma or foul play. It did yield evidence of cardiac disease, however no exact cause of death will be prescribed pending further microscopic tissue examination and the completion of the usual and routine toxicology examination for the presence of alcohol and drugs.
Funeral arrangements for Toney Graham remain pending at this time.
