A hazardous waste collection day is coming up tomorrow (Saturday) after several years of not having them due to a lack of funding from the state. The drop-off will be from 8am-3pm in Wood River. The collection will be held at the Phillips 66 Wood River Refinery.
Madison County Sustainability Coordinator Leah Dettmers says while you can bring things like oil based paint; gas, oils or degreasers; household cleaners; and fluorescent bulbs, there are still a number of things that won’t be accepted. Among them, latex paints.

If you are dropping off items, you should enter off of Route 143 between Shop n’ Save and the Illinois 255 interchange. Dettmers says there will be signs posted to guide you in and the collection is open to an Illinois resident. For more information, call 296-6647.
