A facility that would provide healthy, locally and organically grown produce to low-income families in the area is on track to open later this year if a recently launched fundraiser is successful.  Grassroots Grocery steering committee member Christine Favilla says an online fundraiser to raise $50,000 is about halfway to its goal.

As a cooperative, the store will be open to the public but will also have memberships.  She says the hope is to offer double-SNAP benefits once they open.

She says Grassroots Grocery will be located in a building on Ridge Street because that area has been identified as a “food desert” according to USDA standards.  For more information or to make a donation you can follow the link: http://www.grassrootsgrocery.org
