Two Republican candidates for statewide office are dipping into their own deep pockets to finance their campaigns. State Senator Jim Oberweis has loaned his campaign for the U.S. Senate nomination half-a-million-dollars, five times what he collected in contributions last year. Candidate for governor Bruce Rauner has gone back to his own wallet for a million-dollars for the four-way GOP race.
The latest infusion means Rauner has put up three-point-25-million-dollars of his own funds, about a third of what he's raised so far.
