While there has been plans for over a year to establish a dog park in Alton, there are now plans that are gaining traction to do the same in Godfrey. The Village's park & recreation committee has been discussing the possibility for several months, and is leaning toward creating a fenced in area at LaVista Park where dog owners can let their pets run free.
The plan is to study how to make it work and to take enough time to do it right. There would be certain rules that would need to be followed. Park & Recreation Director Kimberly Caughran:
She says dog owners would need to register their pets, assuring the village the animals were licensed and vaccinated. Without the approved registration, dog owners would not be given a key card for access to the area. She says there is no time frame on finalizing the plan, and the success or failure of Alton to establish a dog park will have no bearing on how the village proceeds with this plan.
