Developing a regional freight district is key to growing the Metro-East, according to many in the business community, and many of those leaders met in Collinsville Tuesday to hear the East-West Gateway Council of Government’s Freight Study and Plan.  The study frames how the region’s use of transportation has changed over the last decade, and focuses on implications for the future.

Frank Miles, Director of Madison County Community and Economic Development, tells The Big Z the hope is to form a freight district in the near future to help coordinate large scale transportation projects.

Miles says St. Louis is the 18th largest port district in the nation, and a significant segment of the country can be reached within a day’s drive by truck.  You can see the full study by clicking on a link here:
