Additional charges have been filed against a Bethalto man who has worked in three school districts in the Riverbend. 36-year old Jason E. Ehlers was charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and two counts of criminal sexual assault on April 11th. Fourteen new charges were filed against Ehlers by the Madison County State's Attorney's Office Friday after an investigation uncovered seven additional victims in the case.
In addition to the previous charges, Ehlers has been charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor offenses. He is now facing four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, four counts of criminal sexual assault, one count of indecent solicitation of a child, one count of sexual exploitation of a child and four misdemeanor counts of sexual exploitation of a child.
The alleged abuse took place at Ehler's home between September 2010 and April 1, 2014 while he served as a teacher in the Triad School District and authorities believe the victims knew the defendant prior to the abuse. Ehlers had previously served as an administrator in the Southwestern Community School District and as a teacher in the Bethalto Community School District. Bethalto Police say that no current or former students in the Bethalto School District were victims in this case.
Ehlers remains in the custody of Madison County Police. His bond has been set at $500,000.
