The Alton Fire Department will be opening the doors of the Don Twitchell Memorial Fire Station on E. 20th Street to the public on Sunday.  The purpose is to invite the citizens of Alton and the entire Riverbend to an open house that the department hopes will be both fun and educational.  Sunday is the start of National Fire Prevention Week.

There will be a children’s fire safety trailer, Sparky the Fire Dog, fire extinguisher training for adults, and free hot dogs and chili.  Fire Chief Bernie Sebold tells The Big Z there will also be two demonstrations: a rope rescue demonstration at 1pm, and a “live” fire demonstration at 2pm.

The open house runs from Noon-4pm Sunday.
