Fireworks injuries result in thousands of people taking trips to the hospital each year, with most happening around the Fourth of July. All fireworks are meant to be displayed at a distance- most injuries occur when people get too close. Alton Fire Chief Bernie Sebold reminds that most fireworks are illegal in Illinois, but realizes many will not be deterred by the law.

He says even the ones you can but legally in Illinois such as sparklers should be handled with care. Sebold says if anyone is injured by fireworks, they should go to a hospital emergency room as quickly as possible.
