With Christmas a week away, the Alton Salvation Army is putting out a call for volunteers to serve as bell ringers and more donors to find a Red Kettle. Alton Salvation Army Lieutenant Teri Ellison says they are a little less than halfway to their goal of $115,000. As of last weekend, the campaign has totaled a little more than $50,000.
The chapter made a change this year, going with an all-volunteer bell ringing effort, as opposed to hiring the handful of ringers it has in years past. It's a move that Ellison says should save them about $20,000. There will be a drawing Saturday for volunteers that will include 2 certificates to B.E. Stylin' Salon in Godfrey, and gift cards to Red Lobster and Applebee's. You can learn more about volunteering to ring bells by clicking on the link below, or by calling 465-7764.
