The recent heat wave may have shown you areas in your house or apartment that could use a little extra attention from an energy-efficiency point of view. Windows, doors, and exhaust fans are all common places where the hot air can get in. The Citizens Utility Board says you can use the knowledge you have gained over the past week to plan ahead and save some money.

Other tips are to clean the coils on your refrigerator, and use the proper burner on the stove when cooking. You can also install an energy efficient showerhead, and plant a tree in a place that will provide shade for your home.
