Circus officials still don't know what prompted three elephants to escape in St. Charles on Saturday.   No one was hurt when the pachyderms managed to break free from a holding area between shows of the Moolah Shrine Circus at the Family Arena.  They made it into an employee parking lot, where several cars were damaged.

The elephants were recaptured by circus handlers after about 20 minutes and no humans or animals were injured.  Circus officials believe a loud noise may have spooked the elephants prompting the brief escape.
