If you are driving at all this holiday season, expect to see more cops out on the roads. 950 people have already died this year on Illinois roads…and law enforcement officials don’t want that number to go any higher. Alton Police Chief Jason Simmons says fatalities are often more common this time of year, hence the added eyes on the streets in an effort to keep you safe.
The statewide holiday enforcement period will run through January 5 and feature beefed up patrols, roadside safety checks, and seatbelt enforcement zones. Simmons says in reality, they beef up enforcement all the way through St. Patrick's Day.
