A suspect wanted for assaulting a police officer in Alton is on the run in north St. Louis County.  A suspected drunk driver was pulled over last night in a truck that had been reported stolen out of Edwardsville more than a week ago.  Police say when the officer tried to conduct a field sobriety test, the driver shoved him, jumped back into the truck, and drove into Missouri.

Alton Police Public Information Officer Emily Hejna says the driver was originally stopped for reckless driving and possible DUI just before 11pm last (Thursday) night.

Dogs and a helicopter were called out to try to find the driver, but he is still on the run.  The vehicle was a red 1998 Dodge Ram Pickup Truck.  The suspect is described as a white male in his early 50’s.  If you have any information, call 463-3505.
