A St. Louis man, who operated an insurance office in Wood River, died at an area hospital Monday after a minor traffic crash in Madison County.  33-year-old Andrew Gobczynski died at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, but apparently not from injuries in the crash.

A report from the Madison County Coroner’s Office indicates Gobczynski was brought to the hospital in full cardiac arrest following the minor vehicle crash on Interstate 55 near Route 111 just before Noon on Monday.  His car struck a cable barrier, and there was minimal damage to the car and airbags did not deploy.  Authorities say there was no evidence of alcohol at the scene and Gobczynski was wearing a seatbelt.  An autopsy was conducted but was inconclusive as to a cause of death.  Additional lab testing results will be released during a coroner’s jury and the case remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.  Gobczynski is survived by his wife and two children, and funeral arrangements being handled by Hall Funeral Chapel in Effingham.
