An ordinance proposed by Alton 4th Ward Alderman Alice Martin that bans dogs from two city parks has become law. The new law faced no opposition by the aldermen, passing unanimously, but there was organized opposition by some members of the community.
The parks where the dogs are now banned are Hellrung Park and James H. Killion Park at Salu. Mayor Brant Walker says he understands Martin’s attempt to make the parks safer.
