The first weekend of firearm deer hunting is this weekend in Illinois. State Department of Natural Resources spokesperson Chris McCloud says this is the most popular hunting season, and that over 330,000 permits have been issued.
Hunters who take a deer in one of 10 designated counties must register their harvest at check stations where biologists will take samples for CWD testing. The second firearm deer hunting season runs November 29th through December 2nd.
