Heroin continues to rear its ugly head in the Riverbend. The drug is believed to have claimed three lives last week according to the Madison County Coroner's Office. The office has identified the deceased as 29-year old Katie Heavey of Collinsville, 38-year old Dearold Oseland of Roxana and 40-year old Paul Simpson of Granite City.
According to information provided by the coroner's office, Heavey's body was discovered by her father at 9:45 p.m. Thursday with intravenous drug paraphernalia also present at the scene. Oseland's body was discovered at his residence by his girlfriend just after 12:30 a.m. Friday with drug paraphernalia also present at that scene. About an hour and a half later the coroner's office responded a residence in Granite City where the body of Paul Simpson was found.
Autopsies were performed in all three cases with each resulting in no definitive cause of death. Further toxicological testing will be performed as the cases remain under the investigation of local police departments and the Madison County Coroner's Office.
