The 10th annual Cycle Across Illinois began Thursday in Alton as police officers, family and friends of fellow officers who died or were injured in the line of duty began a 325-plus mile ride from the Mississippi River to Soldier Field in Chicago. 53 cyclists, including Kenny Deatherage, the brother of fallen Illinois State Trooper Kyle Deatherage, are participating in the ride.
Kenny's wife Ashleigh says they decided to participate because of their involvement with the sponsoring group, Concern of Police Survivors, or COPS.

Deatherage says each rider raises at least $600 to help support the surviving family members through the organization. Today the riders will travel from Bloomington to Joliet before concluding the trip in Chicago on Sunday.
