The aging Eastgate Plaza shopping center is apparently deteriorating to the point the village of East Alton is getting involved. The Board of Trustees is expected to vote tonight to approve condemnation of a portion of the plaza. That move could lead to the demolition of two signs and a pair of wood frame additions at the rear of the building.
The additions are located behind the corner of the building where the former Merle Norman and Pantera’s Pizza were located. The additions are now collapsing and have created an opening in the upper portion of the rear wall. According to the inspection report from the village, it may become necessary in the near future to take similar action on other portions of the property. Eastgate Plaza is located on Illinois Route 3.
