Roadwork is being planned for the next several years in Alton. Projects to fix Washington Avenue from College Avenue to the Homer Adams Parkway and Broadway from Henry Street to Monument Street both qualified for state funding, but only one could make the cut each year. Apparently the Broadway project got the state’s blessing, but the city is hoping to redirect that money to the Washington Avenue project for bid-letting this year.

Barnhart says before either of those projects begin, the one to repair College Avenue from Statehouse Square to Washington Avenue will commence. That project was approved a couple of years ago, but sat on the back burner while county funds were secured. Look for work to start on that project next summer, according to Barnhart.
