Most communities in the Riverbend have ordinances prohibiting backyard chickens in residential areas, but with Alton considering allowing the practice, at least one neighboring town has a mayor that would be open to the possibility of doing the same.  Having backyard chickens is a growing trend across the nation, and Godfrey Mayor Mike McCormick says if there were a call by residents to allow the fowl, he would give them an opportunity to plead their case.
