Alton firefighters rescued a reported nine people from a capsized boat on the Mississippi River near the Alton Marina just after 7 o’clock Saturday evening as storms pounded the area. During the rescue, another boater who was attempting to help with the rescue was struck by lightning.
Kraig Hinson was attempting to help the first responders when members of the Alton Fire Department witnessed a lighting strike which they say traveled through a metal railing on the dock on which Hinson was standing and entered his body. Hinson was treated at the scene by medical personnel. The boaters were reportedly safe following the incident.
