A state lawmaker is promoting a private foundation to raise money to improve the state fairgrounds. The fairgrounds in Springfield has a maintenance backlog of $30 million, says State Sen. Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill).

Manar is sponsoring legislation to create a not-for-profit foundation that will allow those who love the State Fair to contribute money that can be used to address some of the need. He’s doing this with the Springfield fairgrounds in mind, but he says a need exists at Du Quoin too and the same idea could be tried there.
