When children are experiencing new situations such as beginning school for the first time or entering a new school for the first time, it is normal for them to experience anxiety according to medial professionals. Dr. Glen Aylward, clinical psychologist at the SIU School of Medicine in Springfield says children often have difficulty with the change in routine.

To help children adjust to those changes, Aylward recommends parents increase the child’s familiarity with the new routine before the school year starts. If the child’s anxiety continues, he suggests meeting with a school counselor, psychologist or family physician.
