Ameren continues to improve its local electric grid. In Wood River, more than $700,000 worth of investments are being made around the city. Included in the upgrades are smart sensors near the 6th Street Substation, and the placement of IntelliRupters around town.

A new Ameren electric substation in the North Alton / Godfrey area has been live for more than a year, but installation of poles and power lines are still being completed. The substation is located along Homer Adams Parkway, across from the former Dixon Distributing warehouse. Bretsch says that project cost in the neighborhood of $5.1-million.
