Century Golf Partners Management is hoping to get out of its lease to manage Alton’s Spencer T. Olin Golf Course, and the city is making moves to expedite the process and bring in another management company. Admitting it doesn’t have the expertise to find a new management company, the city has retained the services of Walters Golf Management to handle that task.
The current lease expires in 2018, and Alton Corporation Counselor Jim Schrempf says the indication is that there are other companies that are ready to take over the operation.

The money to pay Walters the $15,000 fee will come from the city’s golf course trust fund. The Spencer T. Olin course was designed by golf legend Arnold Palmer. It hosted the 1996 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Link Championship and the ESPN televised 1999 U.S. Men's Amateur Public Links Championship.
