Drivers in the Alton area can expect to see an increase in police presence over the upcoming Labor Day holiday as Alton Police have announced plans for more patrols as part of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over " Impaired Drivers Crackdown.
Alton Police Public Information Officer Emily Hejna says patrols began Friday and run through September 1st.

The Illinois Department of Transportation is funding the increased patrols, in an effort to decrease fatal accidents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the majority of those accidents happen between midnight at 3 a.m.
