After hearing of Godfrey’s desire to be included on the name of the new high-speed rail train station, Alton’s mayor responded less than enthusiastically. Walker says while he appreciates the sentiment, Alton has a lot invested in this project.

Godfrey was just one of a number of area municipalities to formally support Alton in its quest for the new train station when the project was proposed several years ago. Correspondence from Amtrak to the area resident pushing for the name change indicates that any decision would be made in conjunction with IDOT.
