An Alton man had luck on his side earlier this month when he purchased a winning lottery ticket from a Godfrey convenience store. 50 year old Douglas Compton won $4 million in the 50X The Cash instant ticket from the Illinois Lottery. He purchased the ticket on October 13 from the Casey's General Store on West Delmar in Godfrey, which will receive $40,000 for selling the winning ticket.
Compton was awarded an oversized check during an Illinois Lottery event on Wednesday at the store. He says will take the money in 20 year installments of $200,000 per year, and plans to keep working for now at Lerry-Mead Concrete Construction of Godfrey. Compton says he a regular lottery player and won $25 on an instant ticket before using the money to buy the winning ticket a few weeks ago, and plans to keep playing. Compton says he'll splurge, pay off his bills and donate to charity.
