The annual Alton Labor Day parade takes place today in Upper Alton. The Greater Madison County Federation of Labor sponsors the event that begins at 10am from the Alton Middle School parking lot, then around Washington Plaza and ending at the school.
A number of local union members and their families will be on hand, and a picnic for those members will follow at Gordon Moore Park. Participants who are planning to take part are asked to begin their line up at 8am. The Alton Labor Day parade is traditionally held the Saturday before Labor Day weekend so it doesn’t conflict with a Labor Day parade in Granite City that is held next weekend.
Serving the areas of Alton, Godfrey, East Alton, Wood River, Roxana, Edwardsville, Jerseyville, Brighton, Bethalto, Grafton, Granite City, Hartford, Highland, Troy, Fairview Heights, Belleville and the surrounding cities.
